Pondering things during Advent season

As we draw closer to Christmas, I am absolutely honored to be a guest blogger for my friend Barbara Latta. It’s called “What are you pondering during this Advent season?” and focuses on the verse from the Christmas story that says:

But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. (Luke 2:19 NIV)

Mary might have been young, but she was wise enough to soak in the beauty of Jesus’ birth so she could absorb and appreciate it later. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to click over to read it and leave a comment to let us know what you think. Here’s the link:

Have an amazing day, and I hope you’ll find things to ponder and take to heart, too.

Scripture Saturday: Psalm 103:2

Psalm 103 2

I love this translation of Psalm 103:2.

Many translations use the wording “forget not all His benefits.” I didn’t have a good grasp of what that meant when I was younger, but “never forget the good things He does for me” is about as plain as you can get. It’s something that’s easy for anyone to understand.

God is good to us in big ways, small ways, and all in between.

It might be something huge, like curing us of a medical condition. It might be something insignificant in the big scheme of things, like having all the traffic lights on a busy street be green in your direction.

Even when we don’t realize it, He’s doing good things for us. He always has our best interests in mind, always knows exactly what we need (or don’t need).

How has He been good to you lately?

Scripture Saturday: Matthew 1:21

For many people, Christmas 2020 looked different than in years past. Thankfully, no matter how things around us might change, nothing changes the reason for the season: God sent Jesus to walk among us on earth so that He could save us from our sins.

I hope you all have a blessed Christmas season and healthy, hope-filled New Year.

Scripture Saturday: Lamentations 3:22-23

I’ll admit that Lamentations isn’t a book of the Bible that I often think of when I’m looking for encouragement. But these verses are two I’m claiming as we move into 2021. We might not know what the year will bring, but God does — and He’s in complete control.

Happy New Year, friends! May it bring more blessings to you and yours that you could ever dream.
