God is our hope, even in the darkness

By Leigh DeLozier (Facebook | Twitter | Instagram)

God is our hope. He always sees us, and He always hears us.

Even on the hard days of disaster or destruction or disappointment. On the days when we’re scared or sad or searching for answers.

When we think of prophets in the Old Testament, Micah probably isn’t one who comes to mind for many people. But some of my favorite Bible verses are tucked into those seven chapters.

These two were part of my devotional reading a few days ago:

But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord,
    I wait for God my Savior;
    my God will hear me.

Do not gloat over me, my enemy!
Though I have fallen, I will rise.
Though I sit in darkness,
the Lord will be my light.

Micah 7:7-9 NIV

The lesson that struck me anew?

There’s a glimmer of light to be found, even on the darkest days.

Maybe it’s a stranger’s smile. Or all green traffic lights on your way to work. Or a random flower blooming where you don’t expect it.

Ask God to show you a glimmer that will help you get through the day. He will, because it’s another way He shows He’s with us.

You just might be surprised by how many you find.

Your turn: What glimmer of hope have you seen lately? Leave a comment below to help encourage someone else.

P.S.: The devotional book I’m currently reading is Refresh Your Faith by Lori Hatcher. It’s a collection of devotions spotlighting one unusual verse or passage from each book of the Bible. I’m really enjoying it so you might want to check it out, too.
