Historical Fiction Authors

As someone who loves history and loves writing, I have quite a few authors whose work I enjoy. There are many,  many authors who write in this genre, but here are some of my favorites in case you want to check out their work:

book_stackTamera Alexander — I love her characters and descriptions, whether they’re in the American West or Deep South.

Maggie Brendan — A great choice for sweet Western romances.

Mary Connealy — One of  my favorites for cowboys with a dash of comedy.

Melanie Dickerson — My teenage daughter and I both enjoy her fairytale-inspired Medieval stories.

Tricia Goyer — Although she writes in multiple genres, I especially like her historicals.

Jennifer Hudson Taylor — Her stories bridge from Scotland to America.

Julie Klassen — Some of my favorite Jane Austen-inspired tales.

Julie Lessman — Christian romances that are a bit more passionate than some, but still well away from “the edge.”

Susan Meissner — I especially love her stories that switch between past and present day, and how she links them together.

Jill Eileen Smith — Her tales of women from Biblical times help me see familiar stories in a whole new light.

Cindy Thomson — I enjoy learning what immigrant life was like through her books.

Karen Witemeyer — The heroines in her stories are always sweet but spunky.

Do you have a favorite you’d add to my list? If so, I’d love to know who!
