5 Firsts for the Week

2010 is winding down and we’re all gearing up for 2011 … but we don’t have to wait for the new year to experience new things. Here are 5 “firsts” from my life this past week:

Having my final Christmas gift for someone delivered by FedEx on the afternoon of Christmas Eve. Long story, you don’t want to know the details. 🙂 Just know that I’m very thankful for last-minute deliveries, even though the original order should have arrived a week earlier. FedEx and the post office both blamed the other for dropping the ball, which means the original thing I ordered could appear in my mailbox around Valentine’s Day. Or not. Which is why I’m thankful for 2-day deliveries.

Seeing snow on Christmas day! Granted, this is no big deal for those of you who live any further north than Georgia. But for those of us in the Atlanta area, it was the first measurable accumulation on Christmas day since sometime in the 1880s. Pretty neat stuff — and we told the kids to enjoy and remember it because if they stay in Georgia they might never see a white Christmas again!

Hearing our son play the piano in church for the first time. He played “Joy to the World” that he learned for his Christmas piano recital and did a great job. Proud Mama moment.

Sending our son off this morning with the youth group to a conference in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. (Connect Celebration). It’s going to be a great conference with top notch speakers and musicians. Makes me wish I’d figured out a way to go myself! Sure feels weird to watch him pack a bag and leave for 3 days … times are a’changing.

Diving into the new devotional book/prayer journal I got for ChristmasPaul: 90 Days on His Journey of Faith by Beth Moore. A couple of years ago I worked my way through 90 Days with Jesus from the same series and loved it! I’m really looking forward to all the things I’ll learn about Paul and the way Beth’s questions will help me rethink some things in my own life.

So how about you? What “firsts” have you experienced lately?
